This adorable figurine of an Organ Grinder monkey is intricately made to capture every detail. He is simply adorable.
Taken from Wikipedia.....
"The organ grinder was a musical novelty streeet performer of the 19th century and the early part of the 20th century, and refers to the operator of a street organ. The grinder would often have as a companion a monkey to do tricks and attract attention. The monkey would collect the money from the audience and sometimes collect other shiny objects that attracted his attention. After numerous complaints about the sometimes vicious creatures, New York City authorities finally banned organ grinders' monkeys from the streets in 1887"
I have no paperwork on him, however the gentleman I purchased him from said he got him from a company who sold mainly egyptian merchandise. The original sale tag is still on the money "$32 Gar Monkey" ~ I'm unable to find any information of the manufacturer.
He is 7" tall and weighs approximately 2 lbs.
He is made of out of some type of plaster. Entire body painted brown. His tassled top hat is painted red. (Hat top is hollow where tappered candle belongs)
**** A few areas of monkey need to be touched up where the paint has rubbed off to expose the white plaster underneath. See photos. *****
Monkey only available ~ no original box or paperwork on him.
